The engineers at blokart have been working with an electric motor manufacturer to develop a hub motor for the blokart so they can be used promotionally in parades, events and demonstrations. The blokart front wheel was exchanged for an aluminium mag wheel of the same size fitted with a 500 watt electric hub motor. Pivots for a Vee Brake system were fitted to the purpose built forks. The left hand brake lever is fitted with a sensor which cuts the power to the front wheel to ensure the throttle is off under braking. A nice thumb throttle with a kill button and an LED battery power indicator is mounted on the right handlebar. The 36 volt battery is in a strong alloy case with an ignition key and is positioned in a p urpose built bag behind the blokart seat with the systems controller in a small bag fitted to the side strut of the kart. The system is pleasantly powerful and instantly puts a smile on the driver face. It has so much torque that the front wheel easily spins at full throttle on the grass. Small inclines are not a problem. With only a small amount of friction in the front wheel when the throttle is off the electric system can certainly be used in combination with sailing. The e-blokart kit is excellent for Ėgetting out of the holeā¢ on very light days. When coming to a stop, a short 5 second burst of power can excelerate the kart to a speed that can can be maintained with the sail using the apparent wind. The small amount of friction from the front wheel is a small sacrifice for this huge benefit.
